ABOUT THE ARTIST
Makis Makris is a lens based visual artist, focused on meta photography and appropriation art, based in Kavala, Greece. He studied “Historian of Greek Culture” alongside Graphic Arts on “Interior Decoration”. He is Co-Founder of the creative agency Embryo Platform. On December 2020 his work has been selected to take part in PEP’s Photographic Exploration Project group exhibition «NEW TALENTS 2020 in Berlin. In 2022 his work has been selected as one of a winner of the Exhibition Prize of the Passepartout Photo Prize 4th Editions, that has been held in Rome. He has taken part in various group exhibitions as often in Greece as abroad and his photographic works have been displayed in both international and Greek online platforms and magazines. In November 2019 took place his personal photo exhibition at SPACE PLACE Gallery in Nizhny Tagil, Russia. Images are something we’ve imagined that’s bits and pieces of other things swirled together into a dark but beautiful fantasy, something impossible in real life that only exists in our mind. Photography is a tool to negotiate our idea of reality, as well as a means of exercising the poetic indiscipline of looking. We are not interested in what actually appears in the images but in what they conceal, what transcends them and what provokes our imagination, images that shake consciousness. Through my images i try to create a new world between daydream and reality alongside discovering a new variety of interpretation. Shifting the context around them, i reframe their meaning in a process of transforming, thus forming a new visual identity.
